This week in English class, we're reading the story Jack and the Penguins in our StoryFun workbooks. It's a funny story about a boy who helps his dad feed animals at the zoo, and it's a wonderful introduction to our next unit!
Next week, we will begin working with vocabulary to describe animals and their habitats. There will be a research assignment about an animal for students to complete at home, much like there was for the Our World project. We will use the students' research about their animals to write informational paragraphs and create posters in class. I will make another post soon with assessment details once we begin the unit next week. Also, at the end of the bimester, we will have a reading and listening comprehension assessment, so students can start practicing by reading books in English, watching videos and listening to songs in English, and looking over their reading strategies. Dates for the assessment, preparation resources, and more details will be shared soon.

Hello wonderful third grade students and parents! In English class this bimester we are working on writing paragraphs and creating posters about countries around the world. Students who finish their projects before September break will have the opportunity to do their presentations next week, and all other students will present when we return from the vacation. All students were asked to complete a home research sheet about their assigned country. You can download it below if the first copy got lost!
Students will use their research from home to write their paragraph in class. Students are also welcome to print out pictures at home and bring them in to use on their posters. The poster above will be completed IN CLASS.
To practice for the presentation, students will bring their booklet home. They should practice reading their paragraph out loud (on page 12). They should also practice responding to the questions on page 13 from memory. After students present their paragraph, they will have to answer 4 questions randomly selected from that list. The grades will be based on the criteria in the rubrics on pages 14 and 15 of the booklet. Please send Miss Marianne or Miss Karen an email with any questions about the project! Our contact information is available on Next week, we have a listening and reading comprehension assessment. The test will include activities based on information that students will have to understand from short audio recordings and reading passages.
Test dates: Wednesday, June 26th: 3A and 3B Friday, June 28th: 3C, 3D, and 3E Students should use their Numbers are Everywhere booklets to prepare for the test. They can also review vocabulary relating to food, daily routines, numbers, time, and school subjects. A great way to practice would be to have students describe the activities they do during the day and what time they do them. Include details about the names of their school subjects and what they eat at meals throughout the day. Here are some video links to watch for extra practice: Counting to 100 Numbers in the teens Telling Time How much and how many Please let Miss Marianne or Miss Karen know if there are any questions! |
